Cytanium hosting has seen the need for quality web hosting in India, offering hosting packages for as little as $2.50 per month. There are no tricks, or gimmicks. What you see is what you get, and there’s always an option to add specific resources if needed. Shiny offers of unlimited resources, and domains that bog down the server causing your site to run slowly, won’t be found at Cytanium either.

What you will find is helpful and timely support, knowledgeable staff, a smooth transition from your old hosting service to ours, a feature rich control panel, and superior site speed. Don’t just take our word for it; listen to the words of experience in this testimonial.

“Being absolutely frustrated with my earlier hosting provider, I shifted to Cytanium. It has been almost a year, and they have not given me a single chance to complain about their services. My site loads faster, and I must say their service is value for money, I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a hosting provider in India.”

Jeff Graves from OrcsWeb wrote a great blog post outlining the steps for customizing ASP.NET MVC4 validation for CIDR Subnet. While working on a rWhois project, he realized it required writing an ASP.NET MVC 4 based admin portal. Later in the project, he also tackled adding validation to inputs. Adding validation to an MVC model is super-simple with Data Annotations. By adding these annotations to your model, both client and server-side validation comes to life. If you’re working with MVC4, you’ll find this link very helpful! http://jeffgraves.me/2013/02/26/asp-net-mvc-4-custom-validation-for-cidr-subnet/

Cytanium hosting now supports MVC4 as part of the shared hosting features. Microsoft recommends using bin deploy for MVC4, which pushes the required dependency files up to the bin folder under the website.  Here’s a link to walk you through a step by step configuration to bin deploy MVC4 http://ofps.oreilly.com/titles/9781449320317/ch_Deployment.html.

If you’re in the market for ASP.NET hosting that supports MVC, check out Cytanium today!

Google Apps has closed its offering of free email services to new customers, but don’t panic! There’s another option. Windows Live Custom Domains is a free service where you can create professional email addresses to match your domain name. At Cytanium, we’ve been referring clients to both Google Apps and Windows Live for a couple of years because they are reliable, and easy to configure for the professional look your business deserves. Let’s take a look at how easy it is to do.

Configure Website To receive Email

Email settings within your website aren’t established by default. If you’re using WordPress, follow this tutorial for setting up email services through your WordPress website, or look for resources that help you configure your email settings if you’re using a different CMS.

Create An Account

If you don’t already have a Windows Live account for the domain you want to assign email to, you’ll need to first create an account. Navigate to the Windows Live Admin page and enter the domain name for the account. Select Set Up Outlook.com For My Domain and press continue.

Next, select Create A New Microsoft Account In Your Domain and press continue.

You’ll now fill in all your personal account information for the domain name. In the Microsoft Account Name section, enter an email address you currently have; you’ll need to access it to confirm creating the account. Once the account is confirmed, go back to your Windows Live Admin page to begin the configuration.

Configuring The Email Account

Not all hosts allow you to create your own DNS records, so you may need to ask what the protocol is with your host. At Cytanium, we allow you to create your own records. Just log into your control panel and click on the Domains tab.

Click on the domain name you want to configure email to. Next, select Edit DNS Zone Records. You’ll see a list of your current DNS settings that look like the image below.

Leave that window open and go back to your Windows Live account. Under the Domain Settings tab, you’ll see a page with different options to configure the mail accounts on the hosting server. You need to use one of these methods to prove your ownership of the domain before email service is enabled to it.

It will depend on what host you’re using, but for Cytanium, you can use the same values as the example shown.

This is what it should look like when you create the MX record

Save your record and you’ll now see it propagated in the DNS settings. Go back to your Windows Live screen and click the refresh button in the shaded section of the email configuration. Depending on your host, it can be instant or take up to several days to process the change.

When the domain ownership has been verified, you’ll see a page to review your settings and agree to the terms of use.

Once you accept the terms, your account will be ready for use. Click on the Mail tab in the menu to open your inbox. You’ll notice that it’s configured as Hotmail; look to the bottom left and click on the blue tab to instantly Upgrade To Outlook.com. It’s a good idea to send a test email from your website to make sure everything is configured correctly.

If you’ve recently changed domain names, or moved your site from one server to another, then you need to update the domain setting in WordPress. If you don’t, then all links will point back to the old/original domain name and take you away from the new site. You may also (very likely) run into issues trying to sign in to the admin pages of the new site because of domain name mismatching from what WordPress expects.

Here’s a quick tutorial to change the domain name after moving a site and if you’re looking for great WordPress hosting, check out the great rates at Cytanium!

Have you considered moving your WordPress site form one server (or host) to another but think it’s too hard and don’t want your site down while you move it? You’re not alone in that thought. Many people settle for something less than stellar for fear of the unknown or they think it’s just too complicated to move it on their own. In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through the steps of moving your WordPress site from shared Windows hosting to a Windows Virtual Private Server.

1. Backup Your Site

The first thing you’ll need to do is a backup (or export) of your current site posts and pages. It’s super easy and takes only a few seconds with the Export feature in the WordPress dashboard or even a plugin.

2. Install WordPress

Next, you’ll need to have WordPress installed wherever you’re moving your site to. For my instance, I setup WordPress on a VPS using WebPI but you can do the same thing if you’re moving a site from one shared hosting service to another.

3. Install A New Theme

You can either install the theme you’re currently running or install a new theme for the site you just setup. You can also take this time to customize your dashboard  and configure things the way you want them before adding your content.

3.Import (Restore) Your Content

Now you’re ready to import your pages and posts from your old site to the new site. In the Tools menu, click Import.

In the menu, choose the web app your moving your pages and posts from.

If you haven’t installed the Importer, you’ll be prompted to do so now.

Browse your files for the WordPress Extended file you saved when you did the export and click Upload File and Import. If you’re using the same method as I am (shared to VPS) you’ll need to send the export file by email to your VPS and download it to that server to be imported.

Now, you’ll want to decide if you want to assign an admin for all imported entries or if you want to keep the author the same as It was in the old site.

You’ll see a list of all your pages and posts that were imported from your other site. Click View Site to see your pages and posts in your new theme and site. You may need to make some adjustments to the theme layout for your content if you chose to go with a new theme so look over everything carefully to make sure it displays perfectly.

4. Point Your Site To The New Server

Notice all of your comments, pages, and posts are all in their place, just as you had it in your old site. Once you confirm everything was imported properly and things look the way you want them to, the last step is to make it live to the new IP address. Go into your DNS settings of your old site and change the A Record to the IP address of your VPS and now your site points from your old server to the new server!

It really is easy and can be done at your leisure without disturbing your live website. Don’t delay making the change to a web host that can provide you the best of quality, service, and price for your website out of fear any longer! If you need reliable, yet affordable web hosting for your site, check out the options at Cytanium!

WM2Have you seen WebMatrix 2 yet? What? You haven’t even seen WebMatrix 1? No, this isn’t a movie… it’s a fairly new lightweight development tool by Microsoft. Yes, the same Microsoft that makes the big beastly (yet incredibly feature-rich) Visual Studio.

WM2 allows developers to quickly and easily edit their code, whether it is ASP.NET, PHP, or just HTML and CSS, via a lightweight easy-to-use interface.

WM2 also interacts with Microsoft’s Web Application Gallery (just like Cytanium’s shared hosting accounts do) allowing you to quickly and easily download dozens of popular applications and easily get them up-and-running… first on your local machine (using WM2 and the included IIS Express), then easily publish up to the hosting provider of your choice (we of course hope your choice will be Cytanium! Smile).

You’ve got nothing to lose. Go now and check out WebMatrix and play around with it to see if it might make your development and code maintenance easier.

Happy hosting!

We all know that having a backup of our website is important but that doesn’t mean we take the time to do the backup or put things in place to run the backup automatically. For some, daily life is busy and other things take priority. For others, and I suspect most, its intimidation. Common concerns from a beginner web admin might be “What do I use to run a backup?”; “Where does the backup go and how will I find it again?”; “Will I break my site?” Let’s take a look at how easy it really is to do a backup when you use a WordPress CMS.

Method 1- Use A Plugin

Doing a backup doesn’t get any easier than using a plugin and is ideal for the beginner web admin. Plugins are designed especially for everyday users which in turn makes creating and running a website much easier. No need to know any coding language, the plugin is pre-packaged code that magically jumps into place once installed.

There are many great plugins for backing up WordPress but the most versatile and highly rated BackWPUp is the one we will work with today. To begin, install it from your WP control panel in the plugins section or from the WP Plugin Directory.  Once it’s installed, activate the plugin to begin scheduling a backup.

To use the plugin, locate it in your left sidebar as BackWPUp. Click it to open your tools, settings, and options along with a log displaying any current jobs.

Add A New Job

Whether you want to backup just your database, just your website files, or both, this plugin has great flexibility. You’ll first need to configure the settings of the WP site that you want to backup. Select Add New from the left sidebar under the BackWPUp tab to open a full page description of everything you currently have installed on WP. Select or deselect anything you want to add to or leave off of the restore.

The first thing you want to do is give the job a name. You’ll usually want to leave all of the default boxes checked and really only need to configure where you want the backup to go. You have a few options where to send your backup such as email, FTP, Dropbox, SugarSync, and Amazon S3 among others. If you don’t have one of those accounts, there are links right in the settings that allow you to quickly set up a free account. I’m going to use Dropbox so I’ll need to authenticate my account by clicking on the link and then allowing the Dropbox app access to my files.

Activate Scheduling

Use the plugin to do automatic backups on your schedule and time intervals when it’s most convenient for you using the scheduling feature. In the right sidebar Job Schedule box, check the Activate Scheduling box. Next, choose if you want the backup to run hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly and what specific date, day, and time you want it to run.

Backup File

The default settings for the backup file will put everything together for you in a zip file and will show you the file prefix so you know where to find it.

Send Log

Enter or use the default email address in the send log to be notified of any errors during the backup.

Finish

When you’ve finished making your changes, save them in the Job Type box. Now, go to the left sidebar and click on the Job tab under the BackWPUp plugin. Your job should display all of your settings and you’ll want to run it now to make sure all settings are correct and the backup works as expected.

When you run a backup for the first time, you should go to the backup location to make sure the backup worked and all the settings are correct.

Method 2- Export Files To Desktop

Another way to backup your files is to use the built in Export tool in your WordPress Dashboard. This backs up your website files and stores them locally on your PC in a neat little package.

In your WordPress dashboard, click on the Tools tab then select Export. Next, you’ll want to decide if you want to backup just pages, just posts, or all site content. Once you make your selections, click the Download Export File.

When the file window opens, you’ll have the option to open it or save it to your PC.

That’s all there is to backing up your website! Take a few minutes to setup a backup or schedule one regularly so you’re always ready with a fresh copy should your site be hacked or you make some changes to the database that go very wrong!
