Our initial Windows VPS hosting template is a standard “vanilla” Windows Server 2008 R2 build – nothing configured so you can fully configure it yourself to your designed specifications.
We’ve had a few people though request a template that had common web roles, services, and software pre-installed to save them time in getting their VPS project up and running. So today we’re announcing a new VPS Web Role template available for VPS hosting clients.
Below are the components installed and some additional configuration items to note:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
- Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)
- .NET 3.5 SP1
- .NET 4.0
- PHP 5.3.10
- SQL 2012 Express + Tools
- MySQL Server 5.5 + Tools
- Web Deploy 2.1
- IIS Recommended Configuration from WebPI
- URL Rewrite 2.0
- PHP Manager 1.2 for IIS
The local Administrator account has been granted IIS Remote Management and Publishing access for immediate publishing. Randomly generated secure passwords for SQL and MySQL are provided via a file on the desktop of the server.
Be aware that the local Windows firewall is set to allow web (port 80) traffic but it will not allow access to any of the additional services running on the server unless you specifically enable it. That is for your protection to allow use of the services on the local machine without exposing anything to the outside public word. Only open those ports in the firewall if you have specific requirements of connecting to the services remotely.
Not a client yet? Get signed up with a few easy steps and have your Windows VPS up-and-running within just a few minutes of initiating the build.
